Could you expand on what you mean by "manually looking at the local data files"? Are you simply opening up the folder in explorer?
If the module is picking up Caeora files I see no reason for it to fail with the "local" ones since the process for reading from both is the same so I wouldn't expect formatting or anything of the sort to be the issue here especially since it seems to succeed after some arbitrary action performed by you outside of the module.
Perhaps the caching of the images is a tad slow to read your files and you perform a search for images before that is over... Could you try reloading the world and simply waiting for a bit before using any of the module features? If that's what the problem is I'm already working on a solution that should be implemented soon.
I've tried routing it to files within the local data of Foundryvtt, same area as modules, worlds, etc. is. But when I do it can no longer see any of my files. It only ever sees Caeora module files, never my own local token files.
However after manually looking at the local data files, the next time I use Token Variants it can see all the images but resets when I restart my client.
Not sure if I'm missing a really simple formatting issue or something else.
Thanks for all the work you're doing, love the module besides this minor annoyance. The work around isn't unbearable, but my mind can't stop trying to fix it proper.
