Merging this in for now, but Will probably revert later. Is there any way to save the tag info with a . prefix?

Yes and no... it is pretty arrogant of ctags to assume they can just own "/tags" in your project, isn't it? In their defense they probably made that decision in 1925 or something :) Anyhow, undoubtedly there is an option, at least in exuberant-ctags if not in ltags... but it's probably an uphill battle to get all the various bits and pieces to see it.

There are so many horrors like this... honestly, vim is one of the most horrible slapdash applications in common use today... Remember when nobody could figure out how to stop using sendmail? I really look forward to the day neovim or something becomes mature enough to replace it.
