Chatroom #17

We agreed on having a chat room. I started a simple skype chat, let me know if you didn't join yet. Let's give this a try first.

Is there anyone who's not using Skype? Any reason to make a real chat thingy, like Campfire?

bumi commented 11 years ago

I'm fine with skype. The only reason to have something like campfire for me would be to have a more usable/searchable history. - but important information should be in github/blog/etc. anyway I guess

I'm not using Skype anymore. :(

I just sent a sponsoring request to @groveio. We're using it at @5apps and are super happy with it. It's a private IRC server with proper logging, a nice optional Web client, and email notifications for mentions in absence. Also, we can pipe info to the channels via POST hooks.

Let's see. Maybe they're interested...

all right, keep us posted.

Simple IRC #africahacktrip? If you don’t have a proper client, I can invite you (give me your email address) to http://irccloud.com which also has offline messages.

(I don’t really use Skype either.)

All right, if there are no voices against it, could you please setup IRC #africahacktrip? I think many chat clients can be used to join the conversation, like Adium, so that's perfect for me.

So le't setup IRC and then try to move the conversion over from the skype chat.

Already done, just join. The network is irc.freenode.net

Grove wants to sponsor. They just asked how many people we need. I said 10-15.

gr2m commented 11 years ago

okay, others don't use IRC. So here's the compromise: campfire. I'll send you all email invitations. Please give it a try. There are tons of clients. If it doesn't work, we'll go with something else.

raucao commented 11 years ago

Nooo, that's what I'm saying. Grove is all that Campfire is, plus based on IRC. It's the best of both worlds. Everybody can use whatever they like as client, and we still have a nice Web client, logging, POST hooks, etc.

gr2m commented 11 years ago

ahhh sorry, now I got it. Okay, forget Campfire. Can you invite anyone?

raucao commented 11 years ago

Waiting for the US to wake up and send us our account credentials.

gr2m commented 11 years ago

yo sebastian, what's the status?

raucao commented 11 years ago

Just received an email that I should set up an org and that will be upgraded to a free plan for 20 users.

Here's an invitation link that will work for 3 days and 4 more users (until the account is upgraded):

https://grove.io/signup/invite?invite=2i9vu50p

The help pages have detailed information on setting up IRC and/or Web client notifications.
