Trips within Africa (Flights/Buses) #87

It doesn't look like we will get the flights sponsored by any of the airlines. So we should book the flights. Alternatively, there are buses: much cheaper, takes much longer, I couldn't find any online booking, and I'm not sure which companies are (still) operating which routes. Tripadvisor, Lonely Planet etc. all say it's ok to book in person a day before one wants to go. Or else, we have the contact details of a travel agent in Nairobi who might get that done for us. I'd say, buses are only an option for Nairobi-Kampala (12-14 hours) and Kampala-Kigali (9 hours), Dar es Salaam is just too far.

Here's a google doc with some info on flights and buses. We should decide who wants to fly, when to fly, and then put all the necessary info together: full names, passport numbers, and how to pay. Then someone would have to make the bookings.

Anyone feel like being in charge?

I can make the booking, just give me 2 excel sheets

  1. All names / addresses / birthdays & city / nationality / pass id
  2. All flights to book for whom, preferably with links to order pages

I wouldn't mind taking one or 2 bus tours (I would actually like to get one bus at least just for the experience). What's with everyone else? 9 hours sounds doable.

I think also, that this is a great opportunity to see more from the countryside. If we (or some of us) go by bus, than we should go during the day.

Yeah, I'd also like to do at least one trip via bus, if not two. Especially because we will usually be in the city the rest of the time.

gr2m commented 10 years ago

if everyone wants to do the bus drive Kampala ➔ Kigali, I'm in as well.

This would be cool, because we would pass the equator by buss. ;-)

gr2m commented 10 years ago

All booked, baby. Bus tickets get bought on location
