PS: That this isn't caught by Travis CI indicates to me that something is wrong with the CI setup.

I apparently also missed that on every single VM I tested it on. Turns out the only system where I have readline installed was the laptop that I wrote this demo program on.

I extracted this patch from the git tree and uploaded it here:
