Arbitrary filter shelf length seems ridiculous. #14

It seems as though the filter shelves can be nearly any length since all the flows we will have will be less than the capture velocity of sand. Using the maximum velocity in the whole system, would require us to have very long filter shelves, (~8 inches) but that is silly.

We might just decide a few inches and go from there....but also looking deeper into filtration theory.

We also ordered stuff today!

@ceo45 in your markdown files, can you guys include all the results as well as the code? I am lazy and don't want to run it locally. The best way to do this for text (in terms of syntax) is:

x=5
print(x)
>>> 5

Basically just use >>> to signify output. That is the standard. As for graphs/pics, see here

Also I don't understand what you mean by the maximum velocity?

clare45 commented 6 years ago

We had confusion about which velocities to use as velocities to determine the capture velocity of sand,e because it seems that at no point during the process the water velocity exceeds that number. That was to determine the length that the shelves need to be. Chris tried to use the notation you said but couldn't make it work, so I'll take a look to see if I can make that work so it's easy for you.

Update: I see what you mean. Give me a bit to update the code to display, we are done with lab for the day

So we were using maximum possible velocity that could conceivably occur to determine that value

@ethan92429 I just added the outputs to the markdown file so you should be able to see the weirdness..though different weirdness than was mentioned above (when all the values got carried through some things changed). Chris and Corson are talking to Monroe about it this afternoon as well

@AguaClara/horizontal-filtration when is the meeting? I'd love to join if possible!
