DigitalOcean provide hosting for Postgres including backups and storing the database in the UK, so that solves pretty much any issue.
Should this become a paid piece of software, my suggestion would to add a portion of the cost onto the subscription as after 3 or 4 or whatever customers then it won't be costing money, without it being too strainfull for the customer's bill.
The actual act of making a backup is... mostly easy (issues such as half-written modifications I need to think through).
Where we store that is another issue, primarily due to GDPR.
Do we encrypt the backup? How to we ensure we keep the encryption key safe? What algorithm do we use?
If we store the backup on the cloud, how can we assure that it's only stored within the EU, and not replicated to a server in the US or something?
