FYI: One of the members of Seattle.rb mentioned their study group during a presentation. It took them 9 months to work through the book, but they did every exercise. Their recommendation: don't do every exercise in the book. Pick and choose.
I'm not positive that I will be able to do this, but i'm going to show up to see how this will work.
I'm not ready to commit to the study group yet, but I would like to attend this session to find out more about what will be involved.
Because way more people RSVP's than expected, we're moving the study group to Panera in West Akron. The one on Rte. 18 and Cleveland-Massillon Road (near TJ Maxx). It has a big back room. I apologize if this causes anyone an inconvenience. Please spread the word!
The new location is 3895 Medina Road.
@jdantonio I just want to clarify that you are referring to the location in Fairlawn, near Target, not the Panera in the Montrose area. Your address is for the location in Fairlawn, but the google maps link seems to be leading us to near the one in Montrose.
@rpottsoh Nope. I grabbed the wrong address. I meant the one on Rte. 18 and Cleveland-Massillon Road (near TJ Maxx). I've updated my previous comment. Sorry!
@jdantonio thanks. Watch out for that nasty east/west traffic on 18.
@jdantonio Thanks for organizing this!
A reminder for those attending our SICP planning meetup tonight: the location has changed. We'll be at the Panera in Fairlawn at Rte. 18 and Cleveland-Massillon Road. In the back room.
:+1: Count me in
I'm in.
@pzula @rpottsoh @vht-hfenton You should have access now.
I'm gonna give it a shot :)
Hey Jerry. It's been awhile but looks like it hasn't started yet. I'm in.
Back in September when we first began discussing an online course study group, Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (SICP) received the second-highest number of votes. Now that we are nearing the end of the Haskell course (which, sadly, didn't meet the expectations of most involved), it's time we revisit SICP.
Many may remember that our main concern back in September was logistical. The edX course we signed up for had a defined start date, defined end date, defined deliverables, and set of hard due dates. SICP lacks all of these. One of the main frustrations we've encountered with the edX course is the lack of code deliverables. Virtually all the assignments are multiple choice tests. With no code to share there are no opportunities for pair programming and no opportunities to discuss our solutions.
Meeting
Those who are interested and available are invited to join us 6:00 PM on Dec. 15, 2014 at the Nervous Dog Coffee Bar located in West Akron at 1530 West Market Street, Akron OH 44313. Please RSVP through meetup.com.
Those unable to attend our initial planning meeting are welcome to participate in the study group and also participate in this online discussion.
Logistics
Objective: How do we structure a study group around the SICP book?
To be successful we likely must solve most, if not all, of the following logistical issues:

Random things we should take into consideration:
