Mouse emulation #51

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Currently the mouse is not very practical.

It is slow and awkward to scroll with

IF this were made to function more like the Scummvm emulator (not on the
market) then mouse emulation would be MUCH better

Instead make the mouse instantly move to where a finger is placed on a touch
screen

This is how Scummvm is setup and it also uses the whole SDL pelya thing so it
should be easy to implement.

For games like Fallout this would make them 100% playable since it is almost
all point and click!

Maybe this could be an enhancement. For me, the relative mouse move system
(like in touchpad) is great in addition with left/right mouse button custom
behaviour mapping.

I totally agree with this suggestion. Trying to play classics like X-Com Enemey
Unknown and Terror From the Deep. Interface is tricky to navigate using current
touch mouse emulation.

If the mouse moved to the point touched it would make these sort of games much
more accessible.

I totally agree on this one. Instant mouse movement and click will make many
games very playable. Especially on the Android tablets.

Nearly all DOS based strategy games (X-COM, Heroes of Might and Magic, Dune 2,
Command & Conquery++) will benefit from a "click where you touched" system.

I hope this can get some priority.

Also for tablets you can use a normal mouse and touchpad. Can this be
implemented?

I think a virtual analogue joystick and two virtual mouse buttons might work
better for mouse emulation. The problem with point and click is that your
finger obscures what you're clicking on and it's tricky to do a right-mouse
click properly.

alternative way to do is the logmein method on Android. You move the screen
instead of the cursor. The cursor is always in the middle of the screen. On big
screens like tablets I prefer point and click. Or you can do both. Point with
your finger then adjust the cursor a little bit with drag and drop and then tap.

Totally agree with the OP

I totally agree with the OP. The mouse is not usable ingame because even on
transformer prime, we must click with a regular mouse connected on the usb
port, then "scroll" the onscreen mouse, again and again until we are at the
good place.

Taping the place where we want the mouse to be and to click would be the
ultimate solution.

I also agree with the OP

Another Issue for me with this way of controlling is, that my via OTG connected
mouse is not working the way it should. I have to click and drag to move the
cursor around in games like Monkey Island or Dune II.
I think a "pont where touched" would solve even this issue!

Another good sugestion would be trying to implement what they have done in
Wargus and Stratagus... But that would be almost like doing a whole new
software... lol...

I've tried the AnDosBox emulator, that has a wonderful "Pen" settings. With
this input method enabled, the cursor go exactly on the point where I touched,
like scummvm!! Isn't possible to implement this function to aDosBox?

Indeed the mouse control needs serious improvements for Galaxy phones. The
mouse is pressed randomly and sometimes the relative movements changes to
absolute in a totally random fashion. It is quite hard to make the emulator
understand that a single tap on the screen means a plain and single click.
To bad this project seems discontinued.
