Mac OSX Dock Icon Behaviour

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open TransGUI
2. Select Tools > Options > Interface > X Close to tray & X Tray icon
always visible.
3. Close TransGUI.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
One cannot re-open from the dock icon, or the menubar icon.
The close to tray option should close the TransGUI to the dock icon (not
the menubar icon).
One should then be able to click the dock icon to re-open the TransUI window.
The menubar icon should be available as an alternative option for user who
do not wish to have the dock icon.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v1.4 on Mac OS X 10.6.3

Please provide any additional information below.

The app doesn't seem to want to close to the dock, instead, it closes to a
small icon in the menubar, and offers no way of reopening it from there (as
far as I can tell), then I have to force quit, then re-launch.

This used to work fine under linux/gnome, if this is a mac bug why not just 
limit it on macs?
