The game knows how to parse pre-defined systems and even their locations. I know enough about how the underlying hooks work. So, if I know the required coordinates and dimensions, I can write a map file similar to ExpanseMap.txt (or whatever it was called).
Logical conclusion, why not automate it? That spares me the trouble of finding the coordinate/dimension data for any map I want to recreate, and on top of that, I don't have to manually write all the resulting files!
[ ] Investigate map generation hooks a bit more closely.
[ ] Figure out how to write a file. Reverse-engineering design saving might help.
[ ] Figure out how to read an arbitrarily selected file. Reverse-engineering design saving might help.
[ ] Write console command (later I might be able to come up with a GUI piece for the job... maybe) to save the map.
[ ] Figure out a GUI solution for loading the map.
[ ] Conjure up some kind of sandbox-like environment for a basic map editor? (May need Lucas' help.)
