Thaum dev willing to take new ideas #8

@ZenMasterSych

I'm willing to take new ideas for what I can fix and anything else on this ticket, just post things here, I need ideas from time to time anyhow

NexusNull commented 1 year ago

Space travel with Thaumcraft?

NexusNull commented 1 year ago

Perhaps a space chamber. Spherical chamber with magical lenses that bend space and teleport you the the planet you want to go. Of course this needs to be balanced.

NexusNull commented 1 year ago

This could also lead into a research field based on space bending. I mean the Hyperlink blocked seems to already head into that direction right? Extra dimensional beings sound cool as fuck.

Space travel with Thaumcraft?

This is something I'm actually planning! The plan is currently something along the lines of a platform multi that you have to fuel with essentia, vis, and some material item for one way, and then later some method to link two platforms together!

Alastors commented 1 year ago

Yeah, sort of, hyperlink blocked is based off 1. insanity, 2. Spamton G Spamton, and 3. hyperlinks from untrusted sources are actually blocked so that's more what it's referring to.

Alastors commented 1 year ago

Watering can for ic2 crops.

Perhaps, though that would be more within the scope of EMT rather than insurgence, though I certainly may give it a go! <3

Well if you need models, you know who to ask.

I think you could steal the idea from AE2 quantum ring linking method. Okay, maybe not that explosive, but...

Sunconure11 commented 2 months ago

Are you willing to take in major content-based ideas?

Alastors commented 2 months ago

Theoretically

Sunconure11 commented 2 months ago

Well... prepare for a decently sized list. I don't expect everything to be implemented. Half of it is new content, some is some minor bridging, and some is stuff taken from newer and older versions of TC + their addons

Sunconure11 commented 2 months ago

Well, here is a list of stuff. I'm not expecting everything to be done, or even be possible, but I am trying to find people who would even be willing to at least try, as I've kind of lost... most 1.7.10 coding knowledge. But my general aim is to bridge more magic mods together/add more content onto them.

Flying Carpet - A flying rug, similar to those in old TC versions

Eldritch Scroll - Can be used to share 3 pieces of random research with another player, but doing so causes them pain. All pieces will be those that they can unlock already from pre-existing research, however. They will also be things you have already researched. New item entirely.

Hymn of Harmony - Device that pacifies nearby animals and neutral mobs. Bosses and monsters are unaffected, as are constructs. New item entirely. I don't have an exact image of what this would look like in game, but I imagine it might be some kind of fancy block.

Wand Focus: Corrosion - Rapidly corrodes armor on a target, but deals no physical damage to the target. However, this focus is very good at combating heavily armored targets, and even destroying their armor. New item entirely.

Wand Focus: Vampiric Drain - Your corruption as a vampire has led you to discover a way to bridge thaumaturgy with your vampirism, allowing you to feed on victims from a distance via a specialty wand focus. New item entirely, requires Witchery, allows you to siphon life from another foe to convert into blood if you are a vampire. Non-vampiric players that try and use this get sickened instead.

Wand Focus: Leonard’s Urn - You have found a way to channel the effects of a demonic artifact through a wand… Requires witchery. New item entirely.

Wand Focus: Mend - While some of the armor and tools you have created can self repair, what if you could repair it faster, or give repairs to others? The target of this wand focus depends on who you are looking at. If you aren’t looking at anyone, it repairs your armor and tools. If you are looking at someone else, it will repair their armor and tools. Usage can easily drain a wand, though, and uses all forms of primal vis to repair, so if even say, you are lacking in ordo, you won’t be able to repair armor. New item entirely.

Wand Focus: Cleanse - Not the most useful focus, but you devised it anyways should you screw up with dying specific items. This focus lets you return any dyeable item back to their default coloration. I.e. wool blocks become white, leather becomes tan, etc. New item entirely.

Wand Focus: Magnetism - So as long as a player is using it, it grabs items from the nearby vicinity of them. New item entirely.

Wand Focus: Smite - Acts like a silver sword towards vampires and werewolves, as well as undead. Requires Witchery

Minecart with Hungry Chest

Minecart with Leech Chest

Minecarts with all chest variants added by Automagy (Requires TC4 + Automagy)

Skeleton Key - A key which can open any rowan door. However, a single skeleton key has a whopping 32 uses before breaking. New item entirely. Created through an infusion rite on any Witchery rowan key.

Devious Key - An upgrade of the skeleton key, it allows breaking and entering of arcane doors, in addition to rowan doors. New item entirely.

Sinister Key - The final upgrade to the skeleton key, this can now break into forms of locked storage, such as those offered by various storage mods like Better Storage. New item entirely.

Note: Some of the upcoming content comes from either Thaumic Periphery or Thaumic Augmentation, on top of TC5 + TC6

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/thaumic-periphery

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/thaumic-augmentation

TC5/TC6 content:

Redstone Relays

Automated crossbows (including the advanced variant. They will also be able to take arrows from various mods and vanilla, to unleash havoc)

Rabbit Nuggets (If mods like Et Futurum are present)

Verdant Heart Band

Brass golems (If a mod that adds brass is installed)

Brass wand caps

Colored Nitor

Mutton Nugget - For compat with Et Futurum

Grappler Wand Focus

Autocaster - Note: Will come with a config to blacklist specific foci from being used in it, as not all modded foci will play nice with it.

Amulet of Vis

Voidseer’s Pearl

Cloudstepper’s Ring

Charm of Undying (If something that backports the totem of undying is installed)

Headband of Curiosity

Thaumic Augmentation and Thaumic Periphery content:

Pauldron of Repulsion (I'd suggest adding Traveler's Gear compat here, to put it in a better slot.)

Conjurer’s Quiver

Primal Cutter

Elytra Harness (If something that backports the elytra is added)

Golem Core: Seal

Glass Essentia Tubes

Malignant Heart

Some minor notes on various magic mods that may be of interest:

I remember when Emoniph was still active, he said that the glyphs in Witchery are Enochian.

The symbol Thaumcraft uses on a lot of devices seems to be a stylized Pi symbol.

For stuff from TC addons, contact the original devs. It may be possible to get permissions for assets and such.

@Alastors I just got a shitton of emalis with notifications. Dunno why you summoned me, but I'm flattered.

There are many things I'd like to see.

=Transfering essentia pre-digital era is a mess. Crafting stacks of buffers is pretty difficult early game too. Essentia tubes and their "unqie" way of transfering with suction mechanic is incredibly stupid and needs to be changed. Now, I know fixing shit is tiresome and usually not appealing, so a middleground would be to make buffers easier to obtain and actually recommend players use it.

=Add a process button in magical applied interface (don't remember the name. crafting terminal? the green one.)

=Bugfixes to self-infusion. That shit broke more than worked for me.

=Alternative recipe for charged bloodstone (I made my own recipe using blood syringes)

=Actual use for talisman of nourishment (I made my own custom recipe to overcharge it with healing axe so it comes out with custom NBT. It effectively becomes kinda-infinte hunger replenisher that doesn't take up toolbar space and works passively)

=Probably a lot of different tools and trinkets that are just useless junk can be made actually useful. Don't think I can remember them all. There is no use for such interesting resources as Phial of Crystal Blood for example - Blood Magic alternative recipes is what comes to mind.

Haven't played GTNH in a while. Last version I played was probably some nightly build after 2.5.0. This is all I can think of from the top of my head.

ZenMasterSych commented 2 months ago

Also, talisman of remedium cannot be enchanted with more durability (breakes on impact) or repair enchant. There is also no hotkey for it. A big oversight, really.

I'm sorry, but I personally don't find anything from the list interesting or useful at all. Exceptions are wand focus to repair armor and may be witchery integrated focuses, but I've never dabbed into witchery too much.

Sunconure11 commented 2 months ago

Well, I never expected everything to possibly make it in. This was just a sample taken from a much larger list of ideas I had devised with more stuff bridging content between mods. I chose the ideas that would require the least amount of new dependencies in the workspace to create and test. I had stuff like various wand cores and staves and such, as an example, but many required other mods (or in some cases, several), or might not be the useful to everyone.

In addition, a few of the TC5/TC6 things/their addons, at least, were chosen solely on the ground of allowing for more cross-compat with other mods that backport certain features (charm of undying, elytra harness, mutton nuggets, rabbit nuggets), or to allow compat with stuff that adds specific materials (brass.)

As for the reasonings for some of my selections of other stuff from TC5/TC6 + addons... Rule of Cool. Also, utility.

The flying carpet came about as a result of noticing another mod that had such was never ported to 1.7.10, and I remember older builds of TC had such, and at least one addon on TC6 had added it back.

Hymn of Harmony + Eldritch Scroll were based off of two items in a Stellaris mod.

The minecarts felt like no brainers to me, so I put them in.

Corrosion wand focus was primarily designed with the idea of combating heavily armored players + mobs with heavy armor as well, since some people do torture themselves like that.

Cleanse isn't the most useful, but as I outlined, it is a niche builder's tool.

Vampiric drain was meant to give vampire players from Witchery another way of feeding, and an ability to be a bit more stealthy about it, since they will no longer be close to a victim.

Smite is for combating such players, but can also be used on undead, which comprise a lot of MC mobs, due to how common they are.

The keys are basically meant to be one way of bypassing some security systems players may set up.

Leonard's urn felt like a no brainer, once more.

Magnetism is designed with being a utility in mind, to help collect large amount of items in an area.

Mending is well, to help both you and your buddies out in emergency situations where materials may be lacking for repairs. It could also help combat a corrosion focus if your wand or staff is powerful enough.

In the end, it is up to Alastor to decide what he wants in or does not want in.

Alastors commented 2 months ago

In general don't insult other people's suggestions, I don't gaf if they're useful or not or whatever anyone thinks, this is just generally a place for suggestions, no idea is inherently superior
