Discussed with Samsam, who is concerned about licensing of the actual button graphics. He's also concerned about mod favoritism. He's also working on making mod installation more streamlined.
On the other hand, I've offered to re-draw the buttons. My idea was about making sure every mainstream controller layout is represented in the game, not just xbox/keyboard. I wanted to include them all at once and switch them using a memoria setting.
I'm curious to get more opinions.
Perhaps i can say something As button mods aficionado and who has one of the larger collections of submods for buttons since 2020 way before mog-add-ons were on nexus and memoria does not have yet have the mod manager and submod capabilities
I made these mainly back in the day, GDi's mod did not support shoulder buttons ie: L1,L2 R1 and so on. The very fist one i made was the PS4 gloss and it went downhill from there lol no actually by Nov 2021 i have 4 themes officially released (yes im implying i have more ).
Buttons had been one of the essential features. of mog-addons for many years .. and yes there are mods that were made that is similar to mine after release but i let people decide what they like.
Perhaps my question is in the event this becomes a thing will those(the ones you created or picked) textures the official choice of Memoria ? my next question is will other users still be able to be allowed to make it their own?
Assuming if there are no legal issues, I think it would be a good compromise-ish to have controller prompts taken from respective console versions' files directly for the main launcher and then allow for controllers like DualSense and other controller buttons as mods wtihin Memoria Mod Manager or user choice. This would maintain consistency with the official prompts and also allow for users to use custom controller prompts for systems FF9 does not have official button prompts for, like DualSense (PS5) or Xbox 360 style prompts, glossy, pixel etc.
there are legal issue when it comes textures that are formally released on a different platform/ ripped from a different platform. i have made plenty of button mods for a lot of games. and a recreation is the best resolve if in the event the buttons are not formally released on that platform. FF 9 is one of those FF games that did have it. it's a lot easier simply swap textures like the case of ff8 remaster or all of the pixel remasters. FFX and X- 2 did have the textures but even with that Kaldaien still made his own for untitled project x. i apologize if my recreations are inadequate meet your needs. well i tried
For recap The mechanism of activation of button mods is in compliance with the specificities of Memoria for mods . i think it was designed that way so that community can create their mods if they find a gap or they want to tweak something etc. it not necessarily the choice of modders that if they have more than one they have to put it as a submod and users have to use a drop down menu. its just the mod manager is designed that way
May i say something ? Seeing this discourse and other discussion makes me feel as a modder that maintained a set of buttons for years not on ease. I feel like we are heading to a direction where in Memoria will have its own set of buttons officially and... i feel like the ones i made will not be that .
if that is the case Just say it now so that at least i know what course of action to do
a critical part of the success of Mog-addonS are those Buttons
but i feel like that in the near future would be just a huge redundancy if not deemed useless
Add various button graphics directly into Memoria, instead of having several mods for it
