Very well done post! Thank you. I was never a fan of those jitter point plots because it implies some meaning to the vertical axis (in your example) when there is none. The rain cloud histogram is much preferred even if you sacrifice a tiny amount of granularity.

I am not a huge fan of those sina plots either (jittering for scatter plots is fine imo) but for the animation I felt like it gets the point across :)
