"Do not reset speed for session" option not working #489

Hi,

I noticed that the "View > Options > Playback > Do not reset speed for session" option does not take effect as the "Speed step" won't be saved for next session

I hope a fix exists, or will in the near future.

Thanks

Session - it's until restart player.

So, what does this option actually do given that "Speed step" won't reset either way for a session?

Aleksoid1978 commented 3 weeks ago

Speed step - it's global option for change speed.

Aleksoid1978 commented 3 weeks ago

not reset speed for session - it's workin until close player. As example - watch series.

This is useless to me. It's up to you, but I'd be open to feedback and consider adding features that users find useful, and that already exist in other players.

Some need it, some don't. I can't please everyone. Currently there is no such option for setting the playback speed globally, and there are no plans at the moment. I don’t understand - is it difficult to set the desired speed yourself after opening?

I understand, do what you will.

Regarding your question, I deploy VLC on multiple distributions for not-so-savvy users to go through surveillance footage daily, and I heavily rely on the "Speed step" option to increase productivity.

The existence of this option for users who open over 100 videos daily makes a massive difference, so to answer your question, it technically is hard to keep the workflow in control with the absence of this option.

I hope the clarification helps.
