You need to create a new application in Okta. And get the metadata url in it. As I die I can bring this link - http://saml.oktadev.com/

but I hope the author will give more information

What if I don't use okta but Google G-Suite instead? I thought the app could/should answer metadata itself. No?

There is no answer to this there. As I understood, new API/Entrypoint/Servlet should be added to response with the properly configured XML ... Right? )
