Corrosive Dragon Idea #1184

Open Ratatatang opened 3 years ago

Ratatatang commented 3 years ago

A corrosive dragon. for visual it might have frills like the dilophosaurus instead of horns, or just short, subby horns to display that its really not regal compared to the other dragons. for colors, it would use off-putting colors like brown or yellow-green once again as it is not regal.

for its breath it would probably just spit out acid (not poison) and leave a puddle for a bit. and would be found in swamps or other
gross, slimy areas. maybe jungles.

This would make for a neat dragon type for the swamps, but I have some questions:

  1. How would this grow up (like the other dragon eggs, what it takes for them to hatch)?
  2. What would acid do? Would it damage armor more compared to other forms of damage?
  3. Which metal would they hoard? a) Maybe Zinc? A brittle metal weak on its own, but can serve a good purpose with Copper to make Brass, which ends up being a stronger metal and Corrosion resistant.
  4. Would this be nocturnal?
  5. Would it not have a Acid breath, meaning it only has an Acid bomb? Does it have Acid Breath & Acid Bomb?
  6. What differences would there between Male & Female?
  7. What would the Drops look like?

These are just some questions that I had when thinking of what the other dragons in game had, and how it would work. Again, neat concept, just maybe as some other spawning location ideas, maybe the Dark Forest, or Bamboo Jungle (those might not count as jungles). These all fall within the Fire Dragon temperature spawn ranges, but close enough to the swamp temperature range.

I like this idea (I was about to propose something like it under "acid dragon", but then I saw this)... So, what I think is it should definitly spawn in mangrove swamps. And, maybe witches have a (Small) chance to spawn with a size 1 dragon that rides on their shoulder, and doesn't grow older untill that witch dies.

So, those questions, I have some answers!

  1. A new liquid, acid, is added. Acid is rare, forming naturally at the center of their roosts (to show something like "their breath has condensed and finally made a puddle"). The egg needs to be in acid.
  2. Acid would first damage metal armors more than most damages. Gold is the most susceptible. Diamond suffers almost no effect, mostly damage from the physical collision. Leather is second most resistant, then netherite, then iron, then gold (for vanilla armors). Dragon-steels are all almost invulnerable, corrosive-steel, zinc, and brass are all immune.
  3. They hoard zinc
  4. I think that, since their breath makes no light, and causes no temperature change, they are especially well suited to night-hunting. So, they are nocturnal, but have no problem during the day if necessary.
  5. It would have both acid breath and acid bomb
  6. Males would have slightly more prominent horns, and the frills are higher up and shorter. Females have less prominent horns, and the frills are more to the side and larger.
  7. The drops would include fangs that are especially useful in swords that inject poison.

Now, my other things

  1. Corrosion-steel causes a poison effect and damages Armour more
  2. corrosion-dragon fang causes a long lasting, intense poison effect, but only does extra amrour damage to the chest plate, and very little. But, it penetrates it relatively well

These ideas for said corrosive dragons would be really neat, and the whole acid deuterating list is logical and very nice. I almost forgot the Dragon steel and what it would do. The only question I have is this: why does the corrosive-dragon fang do extra chest plate damage only? just curious.

CTH999 commented 2 years ago

Glad you like the concept. The reasoning behind the chestplate is that, since you are probally jabbing it (Since I imagine the dragon fang would be on a dagger), you are probally jabbing at the chest. Hence only damage to the armour. Also gives people a reaseon to wear a different armour on different sections. If you expect lots of daggers (A new mob that spawns in the swamp that uses these? Perhaps "imps?"), which would give you a reason to prioritize non-metalic chestplates over others, especially in the swamp (And mangrove swamp).

Well, the size of the fang would depend on the size of the dragon itself. I'm just assuming that since the dragons we have in the game currently are of the large wyvern variety, the fang would most likely be a little bit bigger then a traditional dagger's blade. But giving the fact that this dragon is partially based of the dilphosaurus, the fang itself might actually be dagger sized, with the corrosive dragon being about the same size as a real dilphosaurus. It could also be a pack hunter, where it lacks in size, it makes up for in deadly attack, excellent stealth, and pack hunting techniques where they surround there prey (most likely you). Just thought I would give my thought on this.

I am suprised so many people liked this idea. to the dagger thing I think thats a great idea, although mods like mowzies mobs already kind of did that. as for pack hunting thats a awesome idea, kind of lends to the whole dishonorable, stinky dragons that live in the swamps. makes sense that they fight dirty. also to older comments I had envisioned a acid bomb, because just a poison breath is kinda dumb and makes no sense, but it can really be interpreted however.

although we have to keep in mind, it cant be too uniqe with too many new mechanics to it or the devs'll get scared away
