The information about which Chrome versions are supported with 0.1.6 could be improved #32

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Google Chrome version: ???
SDK + Eclipse Debugger version(s): 0.1.6 + 3.6
OS + version: Mac OS X Snow Leopard

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Try to get 0.1.6 working against latest build of Chrome
2. Fail
3. Try to figure out why
4. The project page, download page and page on version compatibility are
cryptic with regards to versions of Chrome supported

What is the expected result?
Clear answer

What happens instead?
Confusion :-)

My current assumption, as current release of Chrome responds with error code in
the V8 protocol, is that 0.1.6 on MacOSX does not yet have a release of Chrome
browser that would support the protocol version that 0.1.6 bundles (correct me,
if I am wrong in that assumption!)

Please provide any additional information below. If possible, attach a
(reduced) test-case.

I would suggest updating the compatibility page
http://code.google.com/p/chromedevtools/wiki/VersionCompatibility with every
release of Chrome dev tools, and making the table a bit clearer.

Could you please be more specific, at least with "Google Chrome version" and
step #2 fields.

Yeah, I expected that, I could have been clearer with the bug, so here we go:

I have just been playing with the Chrome version 6.0.472.53 released yesterday,
and it seems to be working fine. I had filed the issue before I tried this,
mostly because I did not find clear answers on the Chrome dev tools pages as to
if this new version is supported or not.

The previous version, 5.0.375.99, was not working for me (but unfortunately I
do not have the exact error response at hand, as this was about 2 weeks ago). I
assumed this was a known issue judging by something I saw earlier on one of the
pages (again, can not recall exactly where, but it said something about there
not being a Mac build yet and that if anyone is interested he should try the
trunk builds).

I filed this issue mostly because the pages about compatibility are not overly
clear, not because I would think there is a problem with the debugger itself.

Also should have filed as an enhancement, apologies for that.
