[wlr/taskbar] Add newconfiguration to allaw grouping all icons for same app-id into single icon, which shows different individual icons on left click #2910

I'm aware of "sort-by-app-id", which groups, or better said, sorts tasks according to their app IDs. This means if there are different tasks with same app-id (alacritty for example, or librewolf to say a different name), they will be sorted in the taskbar together or close to each other.

But I'm looking instead for all tasks being group into a single icon, which on left click expands, vertically, into the different tasks icond, and on left click on any of the icons expanded, one get to the corresponding task.

This helps prevent the taskbar to get polluted of too many tasks icons.

Not having this is really driving me crazy... the taskbar just grows, depending on what I run, and not everything fits in the bar. And I don't like the idea of having several bars. Is there a work around this issue, to try it out while this gets eventually attended? Any recommendation meanwhile? BTW, hiding some apps is not an option...

I would like this too. I don’t like seeing multiple alacrity icons, especially when they’re opened with another app in between. When paired with other apps, the taskbar just grows and grows... I know it’s suposed to group by window and not app, but many other dock and panel software supports this - by default too. Don’t make it the default, but is there a way to add a toggle in the config?
