Here I'm adding the changes that will be released as part of #328 to a branch to be merged into main when we are ready to release those changes on the Portal.
This also includes the changelog entry describing the addition of age_timing and the scanpy compatibility updates.
I'm going to keep this in draft state until we are ready to actually incorporate these changes.
