I was looking for the timeout of the notifications, but seems like chrome don't have a global configuration for this, since it would be desirable so the end user have a more homogeneous behavior, but 10 secs is a good number (at least for me). Also remember that in next version there will be a Notification Center that will manage that. About prefetch, I was looking that is was a default "on" (look into back.js:1555), now that it actually prefetch is another issue altogether. The show the loading progress (since it's represented as percentage not an actual bar) I always activate it since I like to know how much is left, so is OK. About first installation welcome page (see the issue #66) is good for new users. Maybe, instead of a new html page, opening the wiki newbies help or something like that. The changelog is only for curious people, so annoying the Joe Average user seems not right. The size of the popup is relatively relevant... for people with sugei screens that borders the likes of HDTV. Some rework is maybe better, so the only thing is, anyone knows how to set the size of the popup depending the size of the screen? And lastly, this issue must be split! It will be a pain to close this issue since it have too many solutions, so maybe narrowing down what settings might need change and opening a separated issue for each one.
We could do a little survey with our users asking what are their configurations.

Mmm... maybe using the infamous google analytics we could do that... but, some privacy concerns arise.
we could js collect data. like we do on manga reading? On Apr 4, 2013 11:59 PM, "Braiam Peguero" notifications@github.com wrote:

Yeah, I think we could do that way too. It would be even more reliable. And as far as we don't store personal information about the users I don't see any problem. If this is a problem, we could... add another option: "Allow AMR to send anonymous usage information", in which case we should make this affect the manga reading information collecting we do today.

only problem I foresee is that most users will just be using default settings. so our usage data might just show what we already know... On Apr 5, 2013 12:13 AM, "mexicano21" notifications@github.com wrote:

but yes, we should definitely put the"cleft anonymous usage data" into the welcome screen, especially since we're currently collecting data without asking the user. On Apr 5, 2013 12:13 AM, "mexicano21" notifications@github.com wrote:

Most users probably use default settings, which we know what are, and that gives even more meaning for the options we find that a decent number of users set differently by themselves. If we find something like that, of course.

alright, I'm not saying I'm against it! quite the opposite in fact! we should collect data. and let users know we're already collecting data. and let users opt out of it too. (though by default we leave it on, of course) On Apr 5, 2013 12:31 AM, "mexicano21" notifications@github.com wrote:

Ok, we quite lost ourself (that word really exist? chrome keeps saying that is "yourself") in this discussion. Either way, lets change the defaults, or before that lets split darn issue! If I commit the changes, I have to do 4 commits over the same issue -_-, and quite defeats the fact of using a CVS. So closing this and opening 1, 2, 3... 6 issues, shall we?
BTW, how about we set an IRC channel on free... arg, will post in the forums!
yeah, we really need to let ppl know that we're collecting their data. And give them an option to opt out. i know we're not a proper extension or anything, but still it's pretty bad...
I think we should look into changing some of the defaults on a clean AMR install. For example, the notifications disappearing after 5-15 seconds should probably be a default and the option to prefetch next chapter and show the loading bar. Also, I think by default we should show the release notes page and the first time it updates give a pop-up asking the user if they'd prefer not to show the changelog.
Also, some of the options in the settings are irrelevant (like the size of the popup for now), or they should be reworked to be part of the app permanently.
