I was able to successfully install and boot the ASL3 image to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. Soon after I tried to update/upgrade the device and this is where I ran into trouble. The apt update worked fine but the apt upgrade got stuck. Early investigation pointed to the device running short on memory / swap. The following changes resolved the issue (for me) :
Edit /etc/dphys-swapfile and change CONF_SWAPSIZE=512
