1) the term 'derivative' can be interpreted in 2 ways - the difference between two neighboring points or the difference of a single point in two successive times. 2) I think that N (length) is not necessary 3) not sure - I think the parameter 'ddof' is not used.

Sorry I had a mistake My version didn't work... N is actually required! (I still don't understand why)
