Is it possible to grab the codes from http://www.cauldron.sakura.ne.jp/thinkpython/thinkpython/ThinkPython2.pdf and develop a Japanese-English bilingual version of the book? This might be good for learning both programming and Japanese.

I think so, but I don't know who maintains that version of the book.

This guy 相川利樹 https://cauldron.sakura.ne.jp/thinkpython/ and his email is thinkpython@cauldron.sakura.ne.jp And the book says "is licensed under a Creative Commons表示3.0非移植License" on the second page, which is this https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/deed.ja or CC-BY in English.

AllenDowney commented 4 years ago

Excellent. So that sounds like what you want to do is allowed under the license. But it might also be good to let them know what you are planning. And let me know how it goes!

I have contacted the translator some time ago, I would assume that the email of the person who did the translation to either be defunt (possible), that the person himself is very busy (also possible) and can't reply at all, or that he is very new to English (which I hope is not the case). Either case, it might be possible to just work things out directly, and deal with contacting him later.

I think that's reasonable. If what you are doing is allowed by the license, it is not necessary to get explicit permission.
