I am working around this for now by removing \tbl commands.
Adam, do we want to provide support for commands defined in Oreilly5980006.cls?
Hey Allen -- That file was created and used by a vendor because we lacked internal resources for LaTeX work, and Phil (the author) really wanted to leave the source of the book in LaTeX. Since we are heading down a different path now, I don't think you need to account for Oreilly5980006.cls. Thanks for checking.
Excellent.

I am currently compiling Data Analysis with book.cls, not Oreilly5980006.cls and that's good enough for most things.
But, for example, it looks like \tbl is defined there, so tables that use \tbl are not getting translated correctly.
One option is to define a plasTeX Command that does the right thing.
The other option is to punt.
