To clean up problems in the parse tree, especially elements that should not be nested inside par tags, I've added TreeCleaner to plasTeX/plastex. But that means those changes are applied regardless of which Renderer is being used. I'm not sure which of the changes I am making apply to all renderers, and which are DocBook specific.
So it's not clear where the TreeCleaner should get invoked.
