Type of UX work needed (research, discovery and/or design: I think mostly design?
Problem(s) to solve: Users are currently unable to dismiss messages about files that are downloading. If a user tries to download many files, they might get blocked by all the messages (see screenshot). We may not want to let them remove messaging completely since they should know there's a process happening & still be able to cancel, but should at least consider ways to reduce the profile, e.g., collapsible menu item a la Chrome downloads
Software challenges (not a UX issue, but need-to-know for SWE who implements any solution:
Currently, the download service continually sends process status updates as it progresses, which means that if we just enable the dismiss button with current backend, if a user dismisses the status message once it would pop back up almost immediately.
