I'm trying to compile on fedora, and I have sdl installed (at least to my knowledge, I might have missed something)

I have installed SDL_mixer, SDL_image, and SDL_image-devel, and should have all other dependencies listed.

You need SDL2. I've updated the readme to make it a bit more clear.
