Probably engage them to update strings once per month, what do you think @hboon?

Not a strong preference, but what if we engage one of those specialised app localisation services first instead? They generally would know how to handle the string assets in both Android and iOS, and can handle all the languages supported by the platforms at the same time. Would that be better?

I know one concern is how certain common words that are also domain-specific are translated; they might not doing it properly. Maybe we can put in a special note somehow?

We will probably get better candidates if we go direct to translators, but it seems like much more work to get there.

Probably and preferably for each release too. It should be little work to update a few strings, so would be good if we can set it up.

That is ideal, but it seems like it could adversely affect release times and could be a lot harder to coordinate. If it was just done regularly in the background (at predictable intervals maybe), that would be better than what we have now.
