HDMI eARC extraction with DSP for multichannel DAC’s #33

AV receivers are bulky, require regular upgrading due to changing HDMI protocols and affordable ones provide substandard audio quality due to DAC implementation and amplification. The good ones are absurdly expensive.

A small, cost effective device which extracts the multichannel audio signal from an HDMI eARC stream would be an ideal solution. In combination with a raspberry PI the stream could be manipulated with DSP and digital crossovers, calibration for room equalisation with software like CamillaDSP could be applied for example. The outputted signal could then be fed to a high quality multichannel DAC like the OKTO Dac8 PRO or Topping DM7 and then onto amplification. The result would be low SINAD audio with whichever audio processing is required and all done in the digital realm in a small cost effective form factor and with scope to adapt to changing HDMI protocols.

Maybe FFMPEG could manage the processing but I lack the programming ability to make any of this reality.
