jScrollpane changes the size of the DIV its in

i tried following the simplest example for jScollpane. i placed it in a
<div> element and it changed the <div> width and length

i am using the lates verion of jscrollpane with jQuery 1.4

notice what is happening to the top menu. its not suposed to be so big.
this happens in all browsers
