What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. download and build trunk@319
2. tesseract chinese.tif output -l chi_tra

An assertion fails.

ratngs.h:287: failed assertion `unichar_lengths_.length() <= 0 ||
unichar_lengths_.length() == length_'

I also got this error and I found it mostly occurs when tesseract a tif with 
multiple lines of chinese characters.
