Soundflower always becomes default output upon restart

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install Soundflower on MacBook Pro 5,4
2. Switch Output to Built In-Speakers
3. Restart -> Output is back to Soundflower 2ch

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Normally, upon changing default output, your choice would remain even upon 
restart.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v. 1.5.1 on OSX 10.6.3

Please provide any additional information below.
I transferred data from an old MacBook. This did not occur on that computer. I 
have uninstalled 
and reinstalled soundflower to no avail.

I have the exact same problem, I bough a new iMac 27" with i5 processor, and 
transferred data form my 
MacBook Pro using time machine back up. The macbook does not have this issue 
and i cant find where to set the 
internal speakers as default upon restart.

Normally, you would go Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup and verify settings, but 
that still changes upon restart.

Have the same issue when upgrading from a macbook to a MacBook Pro. Now the 
default is sunflower 
and I cant get my internal speakers to be default. I was on the phone with an 
apple genius for 2 hours 
and we couldn't get it to go. Last thing we suggested and I am doing right now 
is to re-install the OS the 
manually transfer all my documents and files from the old computer. I can't 
believe how annoying this is!

Can you let me know if the reinstall of your OS works? You would think a simple 
reinstallation of SF would work 
fine.

Had the same issue after an upgrade to Snow Leopard and file transfer via 
TimeMachine, but was able to fix it. Here is what I did:

- Uninstalled SoundFlower via the Uninstall Soundflower.scpt in the SF folder.
- Deleted:  Macintosh-HD > Library > Preferences > Audio > (all files in this 
folder)
- Empty trash & re-started Computer.

then:
Go into Terminal.
Type:

sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext 

If you know what you're doing and you're happy to NOT BE PROMPTED for files 
that will be deleted, then:

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext 

You'll be prompted for your password.

Important: Restart the machine again. SF is now completely uninstalled.

Then installed the latest SF release and all is fine again !!

Same issue with Soundflower 1.5.2 on a  MacBooKPro 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 
with MacOSX 10.6.4
I tried MrFrankFilms solution without any succes. undflower. If any one has a 
solution please let me know.

I have this issue as well, but only on one MacBook Pro that was built via a 
Time Machine restore from a replaced MacBook Air backup.

after a timemachine-migration from an iBook G4 with Leopard to a MacBookPro 
with Snow Leopard 10.6.4. My steps were:
- uninstalling soundflower with uninstall-soundflower-applescript
- restart the machine
- mov all files of the folder "Macintosh-HD/ Library / Preferences /Audio" to 
the trash - i found 4 files in this folder with entries of the old 
Soundflower.app, with entries from "Jack OS X" and the default entries of the 
old MacOs from the iBook G4 - i believe here is the problem
- restart the machine
-installing the latest soundflower release - 1.5.2
-restart the machine
-All things are know very well. After resarting the machine soundflower is no 
longer the default output.
-the sreencapture software iShowU use soundflower to get the systemsound also 
without any problems

Hi all, I would appreciate help on this issue as well. I have followed the 
guidelines provided MrFrankFilm and by Vertanve, but with little success. i 
recently had to upgrade from Operation System Leopard to Snow Leopard, which 
caused several issues with the Time Machine backup, and maybe this is related 
to this issue. I any case, your advise is very appreciated. Best! Gerulf

Same issue with 1.6.6b under OS X 10.6.8.
Clean reinstall was no help.

Very frustrating.

Is any of the developers of soundflower reading this? In which file is sound 
input and output device selection saved? None of my ~/Library/Preferences files 
change when I change sound configuration.

As an alternative:
Does anyone know a terminal command to change sound input/output? It would be a 
workaround to put this into a startup shell script.

I also have this bug after upgrading Splashtop Streamer (which uses soundflower 
1.5.2).
I am on a MacPro, OSX 10.6.8

My default output is set to "Line out", but after a reboot, it gets reset to 
"Internal speakers".

I have a similar issue on a new Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.1;

1. Set the default output to HDMI
2. Restart
3. Default output set back to None (OFF)

Has this issue been resolved?

I have not done anything to my Mac, no file transfers, no installations, except 
for the poxy upgrade to Yosemite but this just started happening with no 
apparent reason. In fact I can't even recall seeing sound flower in my audio 
set-up.

I found solution in here:

Now that you've removed Soundflower, you need to set the headphones as your 
default output device:

Connect your headphones
Open System Preferences and Open the "Sound" panel
Go to the "Output" tab
Select your headphones here
Close system preferences
Your system should now default to the headphones whenever you plug them in.
