Can select only when horizontal. Instead of thinking of trying the left menu screen, you assume it would be in vertical-ellipsis menu! (Sorry!; however strongs numbers button is duplicated into the ellipsis). So perhaps have a redirect "speak, search…", there which opens the left side menu.
