What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Hold ESC or FN and hit the reduce volume key (F11) or the raise volume key
(F12). The green volume slider graphic appears to do its thing - raising or
lowering the volume - except the volume on the laptop neither raises or lowers
staying constant to whatever volume I've set using the default Windows sound
mixer (in the Windows tray on the desktop). So the volume keys on the Apple
wireless keyboard are not connecting to whatever it is they are supposed to
control.
2. Tutting and cursing alleviates the frustration but in reality don't help one
single bit :-)

very Mac-like experience on this PC laptop.
Cheers.
