So far, I have been plotting residuals (observed - predicted) to visualize growth anomalies for both the length-weight and weight-at-age relationships. There is some literature on the variability around length-weight relationships that use a "condition factor" which is observed/predicted. Are there big differences between these two? It seems like observed/predicted might be more standardized and set 1 as the value with no difference, but I am having a hard time wrapping my head around whether the difference between using either one is significant or not. Thoughts?
