[Feature request] Auto-block people below a certain age #153

Is there a way to prevent users under a certain age (such as minors) from seeing me? The "!under 18" tag sort of works but since tags aren't really standardized it would be nice to do that based on the actual age. To be clear, I'm aware of the ability to filter matches, but I don't think it actually blocks interaction the way a not tag does.

Asked by an anonymous person on Tumblr. I'm adding it as an issue here so that there's an answer for people to find and so that they can subscribe to the issue and be notified when the feature is added to the site.

And the answer is:

There is no way to do this yet, but this feature is on the to-do list.

Thank you for the question and the githubing! Definitely in the to-do list, but you have to understand that at the time age is not mandatory. So there are two options:

  1. the feature blocks you from seeing people who didn't add their age
  2. I make age mandatory, but don't show it by default.

As Starfriends continues to grow, it is quite possible that it becomes mandatory to ask people for their age anyway (for the nsfw features, but also just because of internet laws if nsfw tag doesn't become a thing yet), so it will also depend on how I'd like to tackle that issue when the time comes.

Probably this is already planned but this same feature should also be able to get users above a certain age, too.

Hi! Absolutely, I think that's a good plan, although again, it will depend on whether age is mandatory or not, but I'll definitely think about it and suggestions are welcome in the meantime! Thank you for your help and have a wonderful day.

I guess if we want to play it extra-safe, a block like this could hide anyone who doesn't fit the age restrictions, plus anyone who hasn't entered an age at all. I think it'd be okay if that was clear in the profile form, like: "If you leave your age blank you will not appear in [some searches]. Age can be entered and can be made completely private."

Maybe??
