The backspace always deletes the letter in the current textfield and then jumps to the previous cell, I think it would be more user friendly to delete the current letter if one is present but keep the cursor in that textfield, or if the textfield is empty, move the cursor back one cell and then delete that letter if there is one. If the previous one is also empty just move the cursor to that one.
