You should stay on Java 8, which is a LTS version. Java 11 will be the next LTS version.
Also using alpha versions are never a good idea. Until you want to fill lthe bugtracker of groovy. The latest stable groovy version is 2.5.2.
Since JRE 9 refuse to start on ZH-HK machines (due to missing MS950-HKSCS encoding in JRE9), updating to JRE10 and groovy-3.0.0-alpha2 is needed.
