Pitch for Guest Speakers/Sponsors

Enter the Eduverse

There is a wealth of opportunity for students to become creators of content, as opposed to simply consumers of content by using just a desktop, a laptop, or a powerful handheld device. The Augmented/Virtual Reality industry continues to grow in its use and adoption in the way we work, socialize, learn, and entertain ourselves. Open source developments in web technologies are now enabling any user to create their own virtual worlds and share those experiences with others. We have the opportunity and obligation to introduce these development platforms to students so they can help shape the future of informational technology. Our inaugural Eduverse Hackathon is an opportunity to help high school students learn how to create web-based virtual reality experiences, helping inspire the next generation of future developers, storytellers, artists and entrepreneurs. High school students from all parts of the world are invited to participate.

Theme

The theme of our first Eduverse hackathon is "A Sense of Place." We invite students to explore and research their community, local historical landmarks, cultural centers or aspects of their community that make it unique. Using the A-Frame web framework (or any WebVR capable platform), As students explore their location they will create and/or curate thematic digital assets (audio, video, 2D/3D objects) that help illustrate their discoveries.

Students will engage in Design Thinking to plan their experience. Our Hackathon Devpost page will provide students with resources, examples, and access to professionals working the XR industry.

Timeline

The Hackathon will last the duration of October. Beginning October 1st, students will identify as a team of no more than 2 or as an individual. Coding freeze will occur on October 29th. Judging and closing ceremony will occur on November 8th. All final entries will be hosted on the Eduverse website, as well as XRShowcase.

Grand Prizes

TBD

Guest Speakers, Sponsors and Exemplars

We invite the XR community to participate an inspire the next generation of developers. There are three ways you can support the hackathon:

  1. Sponsor the event. We are looking for individuals and organizations who can offer prizes for 1st-3rd place winners, or just wish to support this initiative.
  2. Guest speaker. We are looking for XR professionals to record their responses to pre-determined questions, or questions from participants. This can be done asynchronously (pre-recorded) or during a scheduled time.
  3. Exemplars. To help students visualize their creation, they need examples. We invite seasoned and novice XR developers to create their own examples so we can provide those as examples for students. This may include a full experience, a code base, or a collection of similar examples.

What is the Eduverse?

The Eduverse is an amelioration of the metaverse, a collective virtual shared space, but specific to education. Any and all learners will be able to freely access these learning experiences as well as learn how to make their own and contribute to a growing collection of innovative educational technologies.
