M1 Mac Heating Up while processing #683

Hi - I have an M1 Mac running Ventura 13.4 and Iam facing a similar issue. The processing time is much longer than it is on a windows PC (5-10 mins for an average 10MB song) and the mac heats up significantly while UVR is under processing.

I see the same issue with with hear(i have a m2) - I see temps of upto 90 deg.

@rajeevbat - what algo are you using? I tried UVR-MDX-NET Inst HQ1 and processing was oly 2.5 mins for me.

I just have that model downloaded for now. UVR MDX NET Inst HQ1. I may get a short song processed in 3-4 mins, but my main issue is with the temperature during this time. The mac heats up significantly, energy consumption is very high in activity monitor. It's non sustainable beyond 1-2 songs. Tried mp3 output and I think that shaved off a little bit from processing time.

That's normal

That's normal

I find that hard to believe unless UVR is specifically better suited for M1 Macpros only or even M2. After processing 1 song the laptop is too hot to keep on my lap, and subsequent processing is much slower. In my 2 years of using this Mac, I have never faced such an issue.

Wow this is a surprise, I have an M1 pro - I have never seen it heat. Though I do have a small workaround - I run istat (which gives you cpu etc) and in it you can set custom profiles for your fans, which I usually set to come on earlier because I just don't like hot CPUs. Of course this won't help you if you have a fanless mac air. But thought I'd chime in - I agree hot mac's are a thing of the past for most people these days.

I hate to think about it, but thinking of Getting a PC. M1/M2 are too slow for UVR 5 / Stable Diffusion etc.

UVR5 does not even use the GPU on M1/M2 Macs.

Anyone have any suggestions? UVR5 only uses the M1/M2 cpu to process audio files.

UVR only supports NVIDIA GPU

Probably there should be a note about this somewhere then as there is still a GPU toggle on the Mac version if I recall correctly.
