regarding the proton french activist ip address scandal -- added source links and archive.org links

nopeitsnothing commented 1 year ago

I think it looks good. @TwoSixtyThreeFiftyFour, can you also review? It's the previous link we couldn't find.

goodsamaritan01 commented 1 year ago

i understand that, but in the guide, i proposed that this blog post be added as a source that proton actually did log the ip address upon government request, and the blog post confirms the claim made in guide, and i think that is enough, whether a reader of the guide thinks that this is wrong or right is a different story, this blog post is most reliable source we have that confirms the fact that proton can log any users ip address if requested by law enforcement, so there's nothing wrong in citing this as our source

Because the source cannot be reputable while misinforming at the same time. This denotes that the source is clearly not neutral and by citing such sources 'as is' (you could add a disclaimer), it kinda means we do endorse those sources.

Don't we already link something about this somewhere in the guide?

No. It was in the guide before but a separate link.

It's probably better to look for french news sites about this or you'll only get the activism BS when this was a shameful criminal act unrelated to any activism
