Extra option for WiFi standards in 2.4GHz & 5GHz #1028

Open PrototypeGR opened 3 years ago

Device Model: DGA4130 Gui Version: 9.6.50-a5f2b677

Description of problem: Would it be possible to have for N only option standards for 2.4GHz?

And N/AC, AC only standards for 5GHz?

I've noticed at least for 2.4GHz bandwidth from 300Mbps max theoritical speed to drop down to 65Mbps.

Thanks

ehm, ignoring for a second the request for restricting 802.11 standards on the station to the higher ones, the way you phrased it assumes that the lack of it is causing the 2.4Ghz throughput to decrease.

I believe that it's not the case at all and that behaviour has to do with some power saving options and/or WMM, anyway part of the standard itself. In my experience when all my devices hop to 5Ghz AP the router automatically decreases the throughput on the 2.4Ghz AP as a form of idling (no devices connected). Strangely if a device is connected to the 5GHz AP there is no WMM capability reported under Wifi Nurse tab also the 5Ghz AP never decreases its throughput for me, staying statically at 1.7Gbps (individual clients will manage their throughput based on needs and states).

That said, all of this shouldn't impact the wireless network performance in any way. On the contrary, having the 2.4Ghz kept at 300mbps might actually interfere with the use of USB3.0 storage devices attached to the router.

Either way i don't even use the 2.4GHz of this router only 5GHz. The only USB device i have on the device is a fan. I mostly care to have this feature with the standards, gladly if it helps with the issue or not. Also the speed drop happens without even having a single devlice on the WiFi network.
