removing (and updating) package stuff on these device is something that you must do very carefully, a lot of packages are chained sometime not in a clear way that opkg is able to manage:
in other word, probably removing samba-tch-nmbd and samba-tch (why it was needed? the GUI install script was not ok?) you broken something needed for nginx/lua, my suggestion to avoid having ad unrealiable system is to reset and just start over
It seems I failed to reply to this issue, though I intended to - apologies!
Indeed, it was a careless mistake of mine. I will be sure to simply rename the conflicting samba config files rather than removing their associated package after a fresh install. I am sure I recall a way to launch samba server with a manual config path; I'll just edit init scripts or whatever starts it.
The reason why was simply because the LuCI GUI had more capability in configuring samba, but it needed its own Samba package. It works fine, btw :)
Thank you!
Howdy,
I believe this is my own mistake. I wanted to switch to LuCI for its better samba capability, but in doing so I had to remove
samba-tch-nmbd
andsamba-tch
. LuCI works fine, but the stock GUI now results in a 404 error:I'm new to router hacking but not to eLinux - I'm guessing the UI is crashing because it is checking for old samba stuff.
So, question (1) - is it possible for me to just remove that "card" from the GUI so it will load again, or do I need another solution?
Question (2) - where can I see logs for this kind of thing? Nothing of interest in /var/log nor in dmesg... so I am not sure where else to check in order to solve myself :) perhaps a little wiki article page about how to diagnose could be useful? :)
