Dead DGA4331 after install? #1193

Closed LucaCraft89 closed 2 months ago

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

Device Model/Firmware: TIM HUB+ DGA4331 / VCNT-3 GUI Version: latest

Description of problem, HOW TO REPRODUCE, Media/Photos:

i simply executed the commands on the main page to install the GUI on the device but after reboot i can't no longer access it in any way no Wi-Fi, no LAN. no WAN but the device seems to boot up lighting up the power and wifi leds green but when i plug in a LAN device or a wan connection nothing happens and the wifi appears available but won't let any device connect.

any help is appreciated

Also if i use the RESET button on the back would it affect the root? would it do more harm? i also tried to turn it off and back on

lorenzocanalelc commented 2 months ago

You need to reset it using the reset button, you will lose root access

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

Thanks I will try, regarding the gui anything that I can install or try to do so like LuCI because I really hate the tim one

FrancYescO commented 2 months ago

Post at least install logs for a hope of fixing the issue.

lorenzocanalelc commented 2 months ago

@FrancYescO It happens when installing from bank 1, the log before the reboot to switch to bank 2 doesn’t show any error but when rebooting nothing is working. The GUI and the bank_mod works perfect if the installation starts from Bank 2. @LucaCraft89 There is no other GUI officially supported. As I stated if you start from Bank 2 the tch-nginx-gui works fine. The other option that you have is to unlock functionality of the stock GUI via command line (But there is no documentation about it)

Thanks how can I do that?

How can I forcefully install it on bank 2 so I can revert in case of failure? Do I have to do "Bank Planning" before that?

lorenzocanalelc commented 2 months ago

Yes, do the Bank Planning https://hack-technicolor.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Hacking/PostRoot/ and then install the tch-nginx-gui

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

Screenshot_2024-07-14-09-32-14-292_com.microsoft.emmx.jpg

After doing this I can safely install it,

I had a problem before that the DNS on the modem would not work aka from shell I couldn't access domain names but only numeric ips I tried to change the DNS like on the documentation but nothing what can I do?

lorenzocanalelc commented 2 months ago

Is the modem connected to the internet? Anyway yes as far as I remember installing from bank 2 didn't give any problem

i managed to fix DNS i actually did not configure it my bad

BTW: i saw that in your repo of bank dumps you are missing VCNT-3, would you like to help me dump my banks? such that you can add them

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

image here is something weird in the serial terminal i get this but it is not installed, i guess it remained from the failed attempt

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

@lorenzocanalelc i am now 100% sure that i have bank planning done correctly can i now install the gui and be sure that it will work?

lorenzocanalelc commented 2 months ago

Didn’t you install it during the previous screenshot? It says OBP Sanity Check succeeded because you have the blank planning

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

Didn’t you install it during the previous screenshot? It says OBP Sanity Check succeeded because you have the blank planning

No and that is what is strange about it

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

Also since i got access to the serial console i am not able to access it on lan, nor thru wifi

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

image finally got it installed correctly but i still can't access it on LAN only thru serial

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

UPDATE: Got installed and working!! Things to make it work:

FrancYescO commented 2 months ago

So basically, the OBP that the GUI does during the install is not working on this device? Still didn't see any log that goes to point and can help for a fix

what about the serial console? Also this if I'm not wrong is re-enabled on each boot by gui, why is breaking br-lan!?

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

If you want logs I have no idea since on serial it says "Successful*

Regarding serial console being enabled aka busybox thru UART it breaks the br-lan for absolutely no reason

FrancYescO commented 2 months ago

Post a debug zip from the gui, it can include some useful things for the debug

For the console, as said, due to the fact that the GUI should re-enable it i suppose it will break again on each boot (and/or this can be what breaks the install of the GUI when starting from bank1)

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

DebugHelper2024-07-14-1829.tar.gz can you also take a look at https://github.com/Ansuel/tch-nginx-gui/issues/1194 ?

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

indeed after a second reboot the br-lan broke and the console is enabled, i can only use the busybox shell thru serial console, anyway to fix this issue @FrancYescO ?

i can't ping it, the DHCP seems to not work, giving a static IP doesn't work, wifi connects but same issues with lan, WAN internet works, i have no idea

no shot this was the issue lol: i noticed that when executing ip r i was getting 2 of 192.168.1.0/24 dev br-lan proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.1 because my wan config was

config interface 'wan'
        option auto '1'
        option demand '0'
        option username 'CP2038RAR9Q-D4351D@00000.agcombo.unica'
        option password 'alicenewag'
        option macaddr 'D4:35:1D:22:7F:62'
        option ipv6 '0'
        option peerdns '1'
        option reqopts '1 3 6 15 26 33 42 51 121 249'
        option keepalive_adaptive '0'
        option dns_metric '0'
        option ifname 'eth4'
        option proto 'static'
        option netmask '255.255.255.0'
        option ipaddr '192.168.1.50'
        option gateway '192.168.1.1'
        list dns '1.1.1.1'
        list dns '8.8.8.8'

and it was conflicting so after changing it to

config interface 'wan'
        option auto '1'

and committing and restarting network with

uci commit network
/etc/init.d/network reload

i resolved the issue kind of because i can now access the modem but i have no internet access

You cannot have the same subnet for lan and wan, that’s what breaks things. You should change the lan subnet to something different

networking issue fixed by manualy typing in the config: current wan config:

config interface 'wan'
        option auto '1'
        option proto 'dhcp'
        option demand '0'
        option macaddr 'D4:35:1D:22:7F:62'
        option ifname 'eth4'
        option ipv6 '0'
        list dns '1.1.1.1'
        list dns '8.8.8.8'

this issue persist after reinstall

You are mixing too much things on a device where this GUI was basically untetested

i assume the broken http page is due to the try of installing luci..

Still unclear if the broken br-lan is due to the misconfiguration (did you manually set the same subnet?) or somehow connected to the serial

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

To clear things up

  1. the "broken" br-lan brakes because the root of IPs of the OS was going in conflict the network portions of the 2 different networks where the same giving birth to a conflict by utilizing a dhcp server on the wan network got the issue solved since now the two networks appeared as separated now:

default via 192.168.1.1 dev eth4 proto static src 192.168.1.50
192.168.1.0/24 dev br-lan proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.0/24 dev eth4 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.50
192.168.2.0/24 dev eth4 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.2
192.168.168.0/25 dev wl0_1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.168.1
192.168.168.128/25 dev wl1_1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.168.129
    239.0.0.0/8 dev br-lan scope link

    before:

default via 192.168.1.1 dev eth4 proto static src 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.0/24 dev br-lan proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.0/24 dev eth4 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.1
192.168.2.0/24 dev eth4 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.2
192.168.168.0/25 dev wl0_1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.168.1
192.168.168.128/25 dev wl1_1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.168.129
    239.0.0.0/8 dev br-lan scope link

this was due to bad configuration done thru the TIM stock GUI that mixed up some setting and by mannualy editing /etc/config/network i was able to get a correct configuration current wan config:

    config interface 'wan'
        option auto '1'
        option proto 'dhcp'
        option demand '0'
        option macaddr 'D4:35:1D:22:7F:62'
        option ifname 'eth4'
        option ipv6 '0'
        list dns '1.1.1.1'
        list dns '8.8.8.8'
        option password 'password'

note: the "list dns" option does not work i had to manually edit /etc/config/dhcp and add list dhcp_option '6,1.1.1.1,8.8.8.8' to the wan configuration and then restart dns (uci commit dhcp and /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart)

  2. i have no idea about the broken http page if you give a way to send over some logs i will sure do

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

i can't find any logs that could point to the broken http page, any possible solutions?

LucaCraft89 commented 2 months ago

I found the issue, manifested also after reinstalling the gui: image there is no index apparently
