The plan was that Onix wouldn't take over generating usage stats until the 1.0 release, but I am really sick of maintaining the old stats infrastructure, and the thought of updating the codebase to support Sun & Moon makes me queasy.
It's time to give some serious thought to whether it would be better to deploy Onix early and just omit features like the Checks & Counters reports for a few months.
Poll the community to get a consensus for what the bear minimum feature set would be for Onix to replace the current system, decide on some performance goals, and then rework the roadmap to get Onix to that point as quickly as possible.
