Can't Get Rid of AntiMicro, PLEASE HELP. #368

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition (The Ubisoft Port, not the HD Collection Version of the game) is a game on the PC that has an issue where you can't use L2 and R2 buttons no matter what you do, unless you use a 3rd party program like Anti Micro. I was originally using Joytokey but wanted to see if I would like AntiMicro better so I tried it out. In the end, I decided I didn't like AntiMicro and chose to uninstall it, and to my surprise, AntiMicro was still making changes to my Devil may Cry 3 Special Edition game despite being uninstalled. The default control scheme of Devil May Cry 3 special Edition has changed to something very weird. (Start is R3, Jump is Circle, Triangle and X are switched and etc). I have no idea why this is happening and I seriously need help. I tried uninstalling AntiMicro with RevoUninstaller and it didn't help, neither did reinstalling Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition itself. I don't know what to do. If anybody knows what to do about this situation, please respond.

@Snow147 Is antimicroX process still active? (You can check it using task manager)

If restarting your PC doesn't help try to unpair and pair your controller.

Hey I apologize for responding late, I thought I was on to something but turns out I wasn't. I found out that my playstation 3 controller wasn't affected by this issue I was facing, so I thought maybe DS4 windows (The program I use to connect my playstation 4 controller) would possibly be the real culprit of the situation I'm in. But unfortunately, when I tried testing my DS4 windows with my Devil May Cry 3 Ubisoft Port just a few mins ago, a blank shortcut to the uninstalled AntiMicro was just placed on my desktop.

I also wanna clear things up by saying I'm not using AntiMicroX but instead I am using the 2.23 Release of AntiMicro. I used the antimicro-2.23-win32.msi to install the program (The very top link of the options).

To answer your responses, I didn't see any processes in the task manager that had the name AntiMicro while I was testing my issue. I'm also using a wire so I don't think unpairing and pairing would help, but I tried it anyways and it didn't solve the issue.

I'm right now running windows defender and it removed the blank icon AntiMicro shortcut that was placed on my desktop. I don't know if running a Full Scan by windows defender will help, but I am all ears for any strong solutions you might have.

Okay so my I just finished my full scan using my windows defender. After doing that I tried opening a game, and the blank icon Anti Micro Shortcut appeared. Any recommended solutions would be appreciated but yup, that's the whole situation.

chose to uninstall it

How did you uninstall this?

I also wanna clear things up by saying I'm not using AntiMicroX but instead I am using the 2.23 Release of AntiMicro. I used the antimicro-2.23-win32.msi to install the program (The very top link of the options).

I was asked out of habit, because this is legacy repo for windows users and only antimicrox is still under active development.

I don't know if running a Full Scan by windows defender will help

It won't help at all.

This seems to be a common issue: https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro/issues/359 https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro/issues/322 https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro/issues/308 https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro/issues/140

I think the simplest (and the most straightforward) solution may be renaming (or deleting if renaming doesn't help) deleting folder containing AntiMicro placed in Program Files (or Program Files x86 idk).

Snow147 commented 3 years ago

I uninstalled it through revo uninstaller first, then i tried uninstalling it through the control panel.

I just tried both renaming it and deleting it to see if it would help but sadly no dice. If there any more suggestions then I'm all ears before I bite my tongue and reinstall windows.

@jsbackus
Any ideas? Could you explain what can be the reason of this strange problem?
How is it even possible?

I wasn't expecting a response from you so thank you for doing that. I haven't reinstalled windows yet but the situation looks pretty dire. Can't tell if my ds4 windows is the issue or something.

AntiMicro is no longer maintained. There were no bigger fixes since 2017.
There is a new recommended version of this app called AntiMicroX.

As a part of cleanup, this issue will be closed and repository will be archived.
If you find this issue relevant also for that new version of application you can create a new issue (or discussion) there (but firstly check it, because many issues of the old app are fixed and there are some new functionalities implemented)
If you will decide to create a new issue for AntiMicroX remember to mention this issue for reference.
