Have a look at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Quickly_Marking_Utility_Wires would this data be useful to your project?

Currently I show schools, hotels, parking lots roundabouts, traffic lights etc. If in future I take my project to a new level, then it might be useful to show utility wires too.
