"show type symbols" refers to the icons in the schedule's second column: Double arrow for re-runs, "new" on blue background for (episode) premieres and a red »recording« disk for live shows. The symbol for live shows is taken from the official Material Design icons (and at some point that for re-runs was too, but I forgot if it still is…). I was, however, not able to find a good symbol for (episode) premiers in that list.

Alternatively: Add a legend to the action bar menu.
