Currently the only way to realize you have missed assignments is if you check the DashboardOverview. It is common (for me at least) to accidentally miss minor assignments' due dates since they are just suggested due dates, and then I totally forget about them because they no longer show up on Upcoming Coursework.
There should be some indicator at the top of overdue assignments so it is hard to miss.
